Effective October 1, 2025, a new Florida law (House Bill 253) will significantly increase penalties for altering, covering, or obscuring license plates. The law amends Florida Statute § 320.061 and creates § 320.262, introducing criminal penalties not only for obscuring a tag but also for manufacturing or possessing any device designed to block plate visibility.
For investigators and field professionals who frequently rely on vehicle identification, this change reinforces the importance of visibility and compliance.
